I've reached a gaping chasm in my Body Transformation program: any more weight disappearing off my butt and I'll see the scales will register a new number for the first time in about twenty years.
It's like when Sam in Lord of the Rings says to Frodo, "One more step and it will the furthest I've ever been from the Shire."
Except that it's not as easy just to take another step.
This is what my trainer calls the dreaded 'set point'.
I know you probably feel this too when you have a particular goal - let's say it's more money in your business, or you want to get a promotion, or you're saving money, or you try to run just a little faster, or you get to a certain point in a relationship and then you shrink back. You only get so far, and then things grind to a halt.
The set point is when you reach the limit of your comfort zone and the body (your life) gets stuck. Any progress winds backwards: you eat a pastry, have an extra glass of wine, spend too much on shoes. Sabotage rears its ugly head.
Set point. Ugh.
The good news is that you can crack the set point. Here's how:
Re-wire your brain. I don't mean go out and have surgery. I mean that you need to create new neurological connections in your brain so that the non-conscious part of you can steer you towards choices and opportunities that are in line with your goals.
The non-conscious brain controls a heck of a lot more of our lives than we really appreciate. Think of all the things that happen without your conscious deliberate awareness: digestion, breathing, heart beat, waste management, sweat glands. There's a lot going on! The non-conscious part of you also steers you away from danger and towards pleasure.
But it's only as good as the stuff you feed it!
You've got to train your brain to expect new results. How do you this? Here's my secret recipe:
Rehearse. This is about creating a vivid picture of the results you want: use all your senses and your imagination to create a living breathing movie picture of your results. Write it out. Read it each day - with enthusiasm and passion, feeling the excitement grow each time.
So this is what I'll be doing to crack my body transformation set point:
I am writing out the juicy details of my rock hard legs, the ease with which I run, the loose trousers, how fit I feel, and the scale needle is firmly planted on my goal number. I am cheering myself on, people are telling me how fantastic I look, and I am saying 'I feel great'.
I could go on, but you get the idea!
Chuck in some affirmations like, "I am fit and fabulous. My body is trim and sleek. I exercise happily and enjoy my nutrition plan with ease." Now it's starting to feel more real!
And that's the whole point. It's got to feel real. See it, say it, feel it, do it, become it.
My trainer tells me it takes four weeks to lock in a set point, and after that it's easy to maintain it. Cool! Four weeks of rehearsals and I'm there!
To your success,
