3 Great Leadership and Self-Development Books for June
Even if you did have this idyllic upbringing, learning and growing is a natural state of being. One of the ways I love to evolve is by exposure to other great leaders, and through great writers.
Here are three awesome books that will definitely expand your thinking.
1. "Losing My Virginity" by Richard Branson
What an awesome story! Some of the things I discovered were: Branson has a fear of public speaking (amazing but true), he had many failures including his first venture the journal Student, he made every business decision based primary and mostly on the metric 'is it fun?' Reading about the evolution of the Virgin brand is the evolution and expansion of a human being's capacity to dream, dare, and bring people along with you. Rating: awesome.
2. "The Spark, the Flame, and the Torch - Inspire Self. Inspire Others. Inspire the World" by Lance Secretan
This is one of the most accessible leadership books I've ever read. Plus, it has the easiest and most powerful methodologies for determining your 'life purpose' that I've ever encountered: start with what you consider the 'terrathreats' - the one or two things that are at the root cause of humanity's concerns. Summarise in one word if possible. Next, identity its exact opposite - this becomes your 'terrafix'. Play with the terrafix as a statement, and you have your life purpose and destiny. Cool, huh? Secretan follows with more practical and easy to sift focus on your calling and character, values to lead by, and how to lead and inspire others. An excellent read for all people - leaders in the home, community, life, and business.
3. "The Answer" by John Assaraf
This is the best read I have found that explains beautifully the quantum physics principles behind the law of attraction and how these blend in a practical way with business development. Assaraf's 'neuroconditioning' process is also easy-to-understand and easy to implement - and it works! The basics: get into a feel-good state, imagine and visualise in vivid details what you want to create/be/experience, repeat several times per day with affirmation statements and other subconscious reminders. Since I started implementing his strategy, I have had a significant change in revenue and an influx of new, amazing opportunities. It works and I am definitely a fan.

#1 Leadership Priority: Vibrational Hygiene
Your team?
No.
Your task list?
No.
Your family?
No.
Your emails?
Definitely not.
Your #1 priority is YOU.
More specifically, your focus, and hence your feelings.
Yes, friends, your personal feelings are your #1 priority each and every day.
Your feelings are your vibrational signature and this is what determines ALL of your results - from relationships with colleagues, team, clients, friends family to sales and winning business.
You know this to be true, right? Think of your worst bad mood - how much did you accomplish that day? I reckon not much. Or if you did get results, I'll bet it was bloody hard work.
There is an easier way.
So what options do we have for managing our feelings each morning? Along with brushing your teeth, try a little vibrational hygiene.
Here's my routine:
- Before I leap out of bed and head to the gym, I give my life a big dose of appreciation. I bask and revel in all the fabulous goodies I've got going on. Plus cuddle the hubby.
- Next, after my cup of tea, I indulge in a bit of Abraham-Hicks meditation which whisks me into deep, relaxed lala land.
- Then I visualise what I'm creating next and go all goose-pumpy with excitement.
- And lastly I read through my affirmations for a rev up.
Then to the kitchen for my pre-workout egg white omelette and oats. Yum-scrum!
If you've got a vibrational hygiene routine that works for you, please share! I love getting new tips.

Gratitude vs Appreciation
"While the word gratitude and appreciation seem almost the same; when you look them up in the dictionary there won't be too much difference, but gratitude is what realists do and appreciation is what those in the Vortex do. Because in gratitude there is the looking at what has been overcome only in looking at it you're not overcoming it, you're in it in that moment. In other words it's laced with the struggle that you're talking about having left behind. But you haven't left it behind. We're nitpicking here we know but there is a HUGE vibrational difference in gratitude and appreciation. One's in the Vortex, the other one isn't...Gratitude is old news!"
Yay! I smirked with delight because this finally explains why I have found so much personal resistance to the idea of needing to 'express gratitude' in order to do the right thing in manifesting. It always felt like a 'should', an obligation. To me needing to be grateful implied a sort of debt owed, an obligation, a requirement for humility.
Appreciation just sounded so much more fun, free, and devoid of any requirement for exchange. It's like a vibrational thumbs up. It's forward focusing, pure energy.
Does that mean I'm not ever grateful? I am. And when I am fully in that feeling of gratitude - for being alive, for being healthy, for having good friends, it feels really delicious - but it's also when I am feeling the most appreciative and thumbs-uppy to my life. So the gratitude that feels good is really pure appreciation.
Humble gratitude is what I felt when people visited me when I had cancer and brought me gifts. I was grateful - truly - for the effort is their support of me. I was purely receiving and the only energy I could generate was gratitude. I had no space for any other emotion or action!
Now appreciation - it's firy, sparkly, and moving.
What do you think? Gratitude or appreciation?

Success
At what point can one claim to be successful?
Does everyone have it in them to be a success? Do we need to work with someone to assist us to be successful?
How do you deal with a change in the definition of success depending on your life stage? For example, I had been a very focused career person but am now struggling with success in my career versus success at home now that I've got two toddlers.
Manifestation
How can I reliably get in the zone of peak performance?
I got the concepts, but how to put them into ACTION ACTION ACTION with persistence and focus?
How to best relax and let the law of attraction just happen, like grass just grows, I want the attraction to do the same, maybe questions to ask or exercises to be done.
LOA - how to stay in the good vibes no matter what is happening.
Should I ask and then leave it alone? Should I focus on it every day?
LOA and Religion
The biggest question is around actual belief & how all the talk about the universe clashes with my belief in God & Jesus.
How do I get people who are religious to buy into the Law of Attraction?
Resistance
Why is it so difficult to practise and wait for the manifestation?
Self-motivation to get through the difficult times and how to ignore the naysayers and dreamstealers.
What happens when your partner does not believe in the law of attraction?
How can you avoid thinking of things you do not want to attract?
Getting unstuck. Finding that inner validation in what I'm doing. Every time I hit an obstacle, I seem to second guess what I'm doing. How do I stop that?
Leadership
Can one be a leader in all spheres or leadership is about "the moment"?
Leadership qualities
How can one identify a leadership potential?
How do we become good leaders if we are not necessarily a people person?
Again it is about qualification.. does qualification make a good leader?
Influence
How to manage upwards and influence my leaders to be effective leaders
Leadership..how to satisfy all the different type of work personalities
Leadership - guiding others in the right way. Not everybody understand the law of attraction and wants to embrace it so how to teach them without them realising, as most people don't just believe this stuff.
How can I stay as often as possible in a place of personal belief, so I can lead inspirationally? So I can touch people so they challenge their own beliefs that are limiting them?
How do you manage leadership positions when you are working part time?
How to develop an exit strategy for a leadership role, getting close to retirement or you want to do something different.
There will be three complimentary calls:
- How to Define And Measure Success;
- Manifestation and Resistance; and
- Leadership and Influence.

Your Good Vibe Account
'Overwhelm' was a big one. My commitments and activities have tripled this year - with taking on the role of President of the Chamber of Women in Business, the position as Manager of the Network and Short Courses at the Australian Rural Leadership Foundation, and launching my biggest project and service ever at Inner Compass - the Mastermind Retreat - Women's Leadership Program.
It's true I have grown as a person, morphed into a more mature, wise version of me, but sheesh! It can be tough going.
So with overwhelm being my dominant vibraito, wat can I expect? More of the same of course. Like vibration attracts like vibration.
So how to fix this?
Fill up my good vibe account. Good-feeling vibes are a lot more powerful than negative ones, so if you top up your account by experiencing an abundance of good vibes, then this will tide you over if you get slip on an icy patch.
Here's how to fill up your good vibe account:
1. Go outside, look up at the sky, and breathe in the wonderment that is the natural world and remember that there is a world - an enormous gorgeous one - beyond your computer screen.
2. Play. Your pick of fun stuff - skiing, surfing, a good novel, backgammon, horsebackriding, a bit of 'sexy' time...
3. Permission to 'quit'. Whether permanently or temporarily, give yourself permission to 'quit' the things that are really getting up your nose. This will give you a 'time out' and fill up your self-empowerment cup.
4. Fantasize. If your dominant vibe is not of the feel-good variety, then you are focused on what you don't want, not what you do. So fantasize about what you do want - good vibes follow, like a wilting plant springs up after water.
5. Diarize. This is the more powerful form of fantasizing - the commitment to words gives it more oomph and momentum.
When all else fails, take a nap, slouch on the couch, and generally slob it up a little while. This indulgence will top up those me-time feel-good vibes in a flash.
Yours in good vibes,
Zoe

3 Tips to respond, not react
ISSN 834-4267
Compass Bearings is for women business leaders who want maximum personal effectiveness and unstoppable sweet success.
***
Three Tips For Responding, Not Reacting
What I find at first with clients is that they are often living by default -reacting to events, rather than responding to them. It's no wonder that they feel so helpless - buffeted by a torrent of emotions.
It's so easy to get sucked in by a tide of feelings. Your girlfriend rings you up for a whinge about her boss, and you join in the clamour with indignant clucking; your daughter shares she has just been dumped and you feel your heart break in a million pieces as you see her wilting with despair; your colleague insults you yet again and you join in a natter at his audacity - clearly a sign of his own insecurity.
It feels good to be at the sharp end of the emotional range.
Feelings are what makes this human game a lush and divine experience.
So what's the problem?
The problems is that what you feel can get in the way of what you want.
If you are chronically stressed, or habitually negative about a topic, or routinely grumbly - then what you are presenting is the vibration of lack - lack of what you want. And that's exactly how you don't get what you want.
You've got tell a different story about your experience. You've got to choose your response.
This is how it works. An incident happens, you can either go for a triggered reaction, or choose a new story, and therefore a new feeling.
In real time, this is what it might look like: I saw my oncologist (cancer doctor) on Friday. I shared our experiences last year with IVF: complications with scar tissue from the surgery, experimental procedures to fix it, a cancer scare that proved ok, and now the need for genetic counseling as we are both carriers of cystic fibrosis.
My doctor looked at me and said, "Maybe you are not meant to have children."
I've had that thought before. But I was not prepared to be pulled down that track again - of imagining a life without kids, of feeling how unfair it was, of feeling frustrated, disappointed, and full of despair.
I looked at him and said, "Don't say that. We still have options."
I decided to point my canoe in a completely different direction - to a thought that felt more downstream than the hard upstream paddling of getting upset. I could have told the 'story' of infertility, fate, and everything always being so hard for me... But this time, I chose a new story.
My new story goes something like this: "I have not yet had kids. Even though we've had some hurdles along the way, everything is working out for the best. I have much to appreciate in my life. Kids would not make me any more happy or fulfilled - if they come along, they would simply be adding to my joy, not creating it. I am so fortunate and blessed - to be alive after a cancer experience, to be in full health, to be in love with my husband, to live in Australia, to do work that is fulfilling and adding to the lives of others, for the birds that wake us, to the beautiful blue sky of Australia and the deep richness of the sea. I am content."
It's not always easy to tell a new story. The old one is played so often and known so well it feels like a well-worn sweater - comfortable and cozy.
Telling a new story can sometimes feel a little exposed - like standing on a windy corner without enough clothes. The more you tell it, however, the more comfortable and familiar it becomes - a new sweater that keeps you warmer.
Here are my three tips to responding rather than reacting, so you can create a new story:
1. Make your feelings your primary concern. Notice how you are feeling in any given moment, and shift your focus/attention/perspective/surroundings until you get a sense of relief and a better feeling.
2. Start to tell new stories. Notice when you tell stories about yourself, your past, events that affect you, and be deliberate in re-telling them so they empower you. The boss that 'always belittles me' becomes the boss that 'challenges me to be assertive and stand up for myself'; I haven't been 'cursed with tough medical challenges', I've been 'the gracious recipient of the amazing advancements in medicine"; cancer doesn't 'suck and needs to be fought', cancer is 'a sobering teacher that calls me to live fully each day.'
3. Have your pity party, and then end it quickly. A good bitch session is sometimes just what the doctor ordered! Have a good and luscious wallow to purge the venom, and then get on with feeling good again.
And now for your call to action - what story do you need to start telling differently? Step out on the edge and start telling it from a fresh, empowered perspective. Give it a go!
To your brilliance,
Zoe

Any excuse will do
This week's tip is all about...
Any Excuse Will Do.
Most people have too many reasons to feel bad and too many hurdles in front of them to feel good.
Example: "I will feel great when I lose twenty pounds, find a man, earn a million dollars, and have a raunchy love life."
These are big requests in order to feel happy. Therefore if you don't have these things - you feel miserable.
It's a terrible way to live life - always falling short, or waiting an awfully long time.
In light of the bushfires, when you see how much people have lost, and what they are really grateful for - to be alive - it puts it all in perspective.
The diamonds, the Olympic figurine collection, the books - they all mean nothing next to the chance to keep breathing on this planet.
So why don't give yourself permission to feel good NOW?
And ANY excuse will do - be happy for the bug that fell in your coffee, the rain that muddied your car, the cold wind that gives you goosepumps, the awesome haircut you got (yes Matt -that one's for you!), that you have teeth, that you stepped in dog pooh.
These are all signs you are ALIVE - why not make it a reason to celebrate?

Are you talking to me?
I get these little whispers often (something I don't tell my hubby for fear he will think I've completely lost it).
I worked out that this is my intuition - my angels - God - Source Energy - showing me the way. Sounds a little whacko - until you've had your own experience.
I often hear the voice when I am driving to the gym. It is my down time when I can do no other activity except pay attention to what I am doing - I can't write, I can't create. It's a breather for the conscious brain.
And that's when the Voice drops these clangers.
Like this morning - "Your business will never grow until you are happy with the way things are."
I know this stuff - I teach it for Buddha's sake - but sometimes you don't really know it until you feel it in your bones.
Abraham-Hicks say that you can't do any amount of actions to gain success until you change your vibration to one of success.
Same thing.
Except it was my own inner Voice telling me the good stuff.
What does your inner Voice say to you?
Here is my inner Voice telling me that my wetsuit is a good choice to keep the sharks away - from being appalled at the colours!

Personal leadership for global leaders
Where most leadership training programs focus is helping their participants hone their skills in the first part - the 'influencing others' part. Many find this extremely challenging. And it is.
What is the greater good? Is it for the greater number of people? If so, then there is a huge argument for things like unrestricted industrial growth and slavery - after all, it will serve the greater good of many, many people.
You know as well as I do that that kind of argument is too black and white - whereas such decisions may serve the greatest number of people in the short term, the far reaching impacts are massive.
So how do you decide what is the greater good?
By filtering through the many shades of grey.
In the end, making a choice that resonates with your core integrity is always the best decision.
So how does this relate to law of Attraction?
Leadership decisions are as much based on intuition - your inner vibration - as anything else.
Are you paying attention to your intuition?
I'd love to hear your thoughts.

Sneak Peek Wisdom from Abraham-Hicks in Sydney
The key point? Move from 'this is what I DON'T want' to 'This is what I DO want instead' as fast as possible - and keep your attention there.
Step 2. Your desires for growth and expansion move to your vibrational escrow. What this means is that when you send out a request of, "This is sooooo what I really really want', then it gets recorded and imprinted in the Universal pattern of energy
Step 3. Become a match for that vibrational pattern so it can manifest in to physical form. How? Play any number of manifestation games, such as imagining it already happening, playing the 'wouldn't it be nice if... game' and so forth.
****
Thoughts need to be repeated patterns before they have any real power (so don't worry if you have the occasional thought like 'gee my neighbour is a poopy pants'. It's only when you repeat it with emotional force that it becomes likely to manifest.
****
Pre-manifestation awareness - you feel good or bad about something or while experiencing something.
Post manifestation awareness - you are experiencing the circumstances.
Sooooo.. tune in to your feelings! They will be telling you what you are about to experience!
****
Be thankful for the things you don't want appearing in your life they are pointing you in the right direction (towards what you do want!)
****
Can you imagine having hip pain and feeling hopeful instead of having hip pain and feeling fearful/doubtful/angry? This simple shift can move you towards a healthier hip.
****
Don't make the Law of Attraction NOT work for you. (by doubting it or trying to disprove it)
****
Pain is a good sign - it means help is on the way - you have launched an emotional message towards what you do want instead.
****
The challenge for most people is that their vibrational experience is usually in response to what they observe. What is better is to shift your focus on how it feels, and shift your focus so it feels a little bit better. (this way you can let go of worrying about whether something is true or real or not - feelings are everything).
****
There's never enough action to compensate for misalignment of vibration. In other words, you cannot take enough action to get you out of worry - you have to feel your way out of it.
****
Never enternatain the thought ' I am not enough' - try, "I have become more but am not allowing"
****
Blame feels better than guilt (because it gives you some power back), but both are poor choices.
****
Step 1 of experiencing contrast is great - just don't get stuck there.
****
You can't judge, condemn, or hate someone into alignment if you disapprove of their attitude or behaviour. Only love can do that.
****
When's something's lost, you can't find it. You have to feel it found.
****
Talk about what you want and why you want it -this is how you get in the vortex of well-being and raise your vibration to a match of what you desire.
****
Tell a better story and vibration through appreciation.
****
Striving and struggle is not success.
****
Until you get your own connection to Source, all this 'channelling' stuff will look pretty weird.
****
They were awesome! If you get a chance to see them, GO!

Evidence of lack, or lack of evidence?
So here's the thing: the crazy gardener has expanded his claim on the nature strip with multiple layers of rockery, shrubs, climbers, and flowers. All non-native, and all completely out of kilter with the rest of the scenery. In my opinion, it's ugly and weird.
So as I reflected on my own strong and harsh judgments of this man's project (and obvious heart-felt passion and hobby), I thought about how we judge others in their creative process.

In Los Angeles I heard many a tale of how these enthusiastic entrepreneurs launched their business to the derision, scorn, and mocking of their peers, friends, and families. The slow starts, the absence of tangible results, especially in the beginning, were just like the scorn I held for my neighbour: I didn't understand it, I couldn't see his plan or his intended results – it just looked like crap.
And this is what others might see when they peer in to YOUR garden – your business, your project, or your life – to an outsider it may appear like a random scrap of weeds, disjointed, disorganised, and certainly not beautiful.
It may even appear that way to YOU! As you look at your own business in the making, it is easy to get caught up with what is currently there – things in motion, but not necessarily blooming. And this can be discouraging.
lack of evidence is not evidence of lack!
Going out in to the garden and yelling 'hurry up' doesn't help; nor does giving up and neglecting the weeding and watering.
Manifesting a lush garden – or a productive business – takes persistence, dedication, and a willingness to accept what is (even if it may appear ugly and disjointed), while all the time maintaining your vision for glorious summer blooms.
They say half the magic in gardens and business is the process – be patient and savour it.

Law of Attraction in Business?
However, when it comes to implementing these principles on consistent basis to get desired results, the conscious business owners often fall short of the mark.
Pretty soon they start to wonder, "does this stuff really work? Am I doing it right? Maybe there's something wrong with me..." and these kinds of vibes are manifestation-killers.
There's no room for doubt in manifestation - only faith and love.
So how do you shake doubt and embrace faith?
It's no secret...
It's a process.
And it's so simple people are often fooled in to thinking that it couldn't be this easy.
Well, it is.
So what is the process to live the Law of Attraction in business, consistently, every time?
Keep your focus and thoughts on your desires. Release doubt and fear. Be guided by intuition and inspiration. Have fun.
That's it.
I told you it was simple!
Here's where people get it wrong all the time:
1. They give up too early. Just when momentum starts to build, they start to look for results and they let go of their focus. Like learning to ride a bike, they get the balance and all of a sudden look down and fall off.
2. They try to do it alone. Ever try to learn a new skill from a book? It's ridiculously tough, isn't it? There's no help, no advice, no feedback on where you've gone wrong, and secretly you feel like a fool and a loser for not getting it right.
I know this from first-hand experience. For years I tried to do all my own publishing. I sweated over the false turns, outdated information, and frustrating systems until I finally got help - in the form of my two lovely assistants, Jen and Heather.
Lesson learned? Going it alone is tough stuff, and produces lukewarm results.
3. Scatter gun approach to implementation. This goes from goal setting to marketing. They see a good idea, jump on it without due consideration, and end up wasting tons of money and time on a random idea without a strategic process in place.
Well my friends, living the Law of Attraction in Business is the same as implementation any other quality, results-oriented technique: it is a process that needs thought and consideration, and consistent energy to implement.
You CAN do it - absolutely.
But you absolutely do not need to do it alone!

"It's not my job" and other excuses

I love this photo! It's a classic example of self-righteousness and laziness all rolled in to one.
How often have you said, "It's not my job", or "It's not my fault", or "It's not fair", or "I'm not getting paid enough to do this", or "This is not what I signed up for", and so on.
Yup, me too. Been there too.
It is so much easier to blame someone else when things go wrong. Or to take the easy way out, like the guy driving the line-maker machine did.
The thing is, when you are a conscious entrepreneur, if you are truly going to be successful, then you know the paradox of freedom and responsibility.
Being the boss means total freedom - you get to make the decisions, you get to decide the direction, what's going to happen and where.
You also know that when the poop hits the fan, you're the one who's going to need the shower.
That's the amazing thing about awareness and being a conscious business owner - you realise:
At first this can hit you like a sack of potatoes.
Holy guacamole, I'm responsible for everything?
Yes, everything.
And that's when it dawns on you...
I can create and attract anything! "
Including that Maserati, that trip around the world, the beach house, the outrageously fit body, the bulging bank account...
And your sense of freedom and power is born.
You can't have one without the other - freedom AND responsibility.
Hmmmm...kinda makes you think twice about cutting corners!
What are you doing that you could take more responsibility for and change?
Here's to a life that rocks!
